At the end of December, I went here, to southern Utah, all by myself (no kids, no husband, no kidding and yes it was AWESOME):

I met so many amazing people and did so many incredible things at this very special place (I am seriously not trying to make to so totally jealous but it WAS AWESOME).
One person I met and keep thinking about is Farideh Goldin.

Her book, Wedding Song: Memoirs of an Iranian Jewish Woman (which I just bought), is a book I am so excited to read.

Farideh is an incredible woman of tremendous wisdom, compassion and strength (her husband Norman is an amazing human being as well). It's no surprise to me that Wedding Song has received so many glowing reviews like this one:
"I have been haunted by Farideh Goldin's Wedding Song since the day I read it. Goldin's writing is sometimes spicy and sometimes sad, but always compelling. Her memoir is full of anger and compassion and insight. A stunning and powerful debut."

Going away alone, totally unplugging, spending time outdoors, de-stressing and hanging out with people like Farideh is one of the most deeply restorative experiences I've had in a long, long time. The big question for me now is -- How am I going to make that happen EVERY year!
