What a summer

Whew, ok this has been the most action packed summer of my life. Not only are we totally rebuilding TheMotherhood from scratch (it is going to be so completely awesome, stay tuned -- very soon!) my family and I have been on the road, traveling to all kinds of cool places for most of the summer. Our latest journey was to Brooklyn, NY for our oldest daughter to spend a totally AWESOME week rocking out at the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls. She went last year too and this time was even more magic than last time.

Willie Mae is one of the most amazing camps in the world. The girls spend a week writing songs, forming bands, learning instruments, learning self defense, studying the history of women in rock and having a screaming, jumping, rocking awesome time.

In the meantime, Go Obama (my younger daughter in Williamsburg, Brooklyn this weekend.)

Live feed from the Olympics in Beijing!

I love the Olympics, and a number of years back got to watch them in Italy - what a difference! Instead of all our canned, human interest stories, Italian television kept the cameras on the track and field events for hours, going from one event to another, depending on what was happening in the moment. By the time some of the really good pole vaulters, runners and high jumpers had their turn, you could see how really amazingly good they were compared to the ones who'd gone before.

Even better, we got a feeling for what it was like inside the stadium as the competitions unfolded. It was incredibly suspenseful, to the point that we had to limit the amount of time we spent in front of the TV so we could go outside and enjoy Italy.

For those of you who want to get a real-time feel for the Olympics in China, here's a link to a live television feed. It's Friday morning, and the Opening Ceremony is happening right now. Funky, discordant Chinese music is being played on ancient instruments as I write this - a whole new sound for us westerners. Not likely we'll hear it on the NBC broadcast tonight, do you think?

We went to Wyoming in June for the full-on cowboy experience. It was SO FUN. If you ever want to try a dude ranch, let me know and I can fill you in on what we learned and how to best do it with little kids (at least from our perspective!) Some photos (that's us on the big hillside riding one beautiful morning):

We've been working away on the complete re-build of TheMotherhood this summer, so, as you can tell from our light posting, we've really had our heads down. We CAN'T WAIT to go live and show you the very special tools we've been creating. I am so proud of what our site is going to be.

Needless to say, this has been a wonderful and exciting summer. Emily and I live in different towns, but this summer we met in Chautauqua for the month of July with our families and had a magical, amazing time together working and playing on the lake.
