During the week of September 6, 2010, TheMotherhood.com surveyed more than 200 top mom bloggers on the topic of which social media tools and platforms they use most often. Here are the results from TheMometer (TM), TheMotherhood's own research into what moms online are thinking about important topics.
Surprisingly, despite recent hype about emerging social networking platforms Foursquare and Whrrl, survey results showed they were not often visited by mom bloggers. More than two-thirds (68 percent) of respondents said they had never used Foursquare, and nearly half (45 percent) said they did not use Whrrl.
Aside from their own personal blogs, Twitter and Facebook were the clear leaders in the online space, with a large majority of respondents (93 and 91 percent, respectively) reporting heavy usage of the popular social networking sites.
Questions about other online tools revealed that usage of YouTube and online games falls far short of Twitter and Facebook among mom bloggers. Approximately one in twenty respondents considered themselves “power users” of YouTube (7 percent), and only 3 percent labeled themselves power users of online games.
Below are detailed results of the survey.
What is the most popular online platform among mom bloggers?
Nearly 100 percent of survey respondents said they were heavy to power users of their own personal blogs, but Twitter and Facebook were close behind. Twitter boasted 93 percent of respondents as heavy to power users, while Facebook had 91 percent. Only 1 percent said they were not Twitter or Facebook users.
Which platforms were least popular among mom bloggers?

Nearly half (45 percent) of respondents said they were not on Whrrl, while only one in twenty (6 percent) labeled themselves power users.

When it comes to Twitter parties, the survey showed that a strong majority (81 percent) of bloggers like Twitter parties at least some of the time. Only 12 percent reported that they had never been part of a Twitter party.
Do mom bloggers use YouTube?
Ninety-four percent of survey respondents have used YouTube, but only 7 percent consider themselves power users.
